Successor to "OCTOPUS" (Preliminary Announcement)

From around autumn 2025, we plan to launch a new service utilizing the successor to "OCTOPUS" as a next-generation compute and storage infrastructure, available to researchers at universities, research institutions, and companies across Japan.

Details such as the official system name, start date, usage fees, and usage methods will be announced on the official website and via email as soon as preparations are complete.

Successor to OCTOPUS

The successor to "OCTOPUS" will be a computing and storage infrastructure consisting of general-purpose CPU nodes (NEC LX201 Ein-1: 140 nodes) equipped with two 6th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors (Granite Rapids generation), and a large-capacity storage system (usable capacity: 3.58 PB).

Below is the system configuration of the planned equipment.
I hope this will be helpful as a reference for your research plans.

System Configuration

Total computing performance 2.293 PFLOPS
Node Configuration General-purpose CPU Node Group
140 Nodes (16.384 TFLOPS)
Processor: Intel Xeon 6980P (Granite Rapids / 2.0GHz 128 cores) ×2
Main Memory: 768 GB
Storage DDN EXAScaler (Lustre) HDD: 4.48 PB (Usable Capacity: 3.58 PB)
Interconnect InfiniBand NDR200 (200 Gbps)

*The calculation precision used to derive the theoretical computing performance is "double precision."
