A revisit to numerical computation of Ordinary Differential Equations

Please note that this workshop will be conducted in Japanese.

Overview

When numerical computation becomes necessary in research and development, what criteria should be used to select an appropriate algorithm?

Various factors need to be considered, including accuracy, stability, and computational efficiency. However, even when researchers and engineers encounter questions about seemingly fundamental concepts, they may hesitate to ask others precisely because those concepts are regarded as basic.

In this seminar, we will begin by revisiting the textbook fundamentals of numerical algorithms for ordinary differential equations (ODEs). We will then provide a systematic overview of numerical methods for ODEs, ranging from classical approaches to state-of-the-art techniques.

Through illustrative examples, including the potential pitfalls that can arise when individually effective ideas are combined in a straightforward manner, we will discuss how different algorithms can be classified, understood, and selected in practice.

Target

  • Those who are doing numerical calculations of ordinary differential equations
  • Those who wish to improve numerical calculations
  • Those who want to learn various numerical algorithms and their characteristics
