Overview
Starting in September 2025, the D3 Center at Osaka University will launch the operation of OCTOPUS (Osaka university Compute & sTOrage Platform Urging open Science), a next-generation computing and storage platform available to researchers at universities, research institutes, and companies, as well as graduate students and undergraduate students throughout Japan. OCTOPUS will consist of 140 general-purpose CPU nodes equipped with two 6th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors each, and a large-capacity storage system with an effective capacity of 3.58 PB (details).
From September to November 2025, as part of pre-production testing, OCTOPUS will be offered free of charge to researchers at universities, research institutes, and companies nationwide who are considering using the system in the future. Production operation is planned to begin in December 2025.
In this session, we will introduce a technical overview of OCTOPUS, as well as provide details on the free trial and the application process.
